BasicSafe attended two major conferences this month: the 2016 Southern Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Conference, and the National Safety Council Congress & Expo. We had a great time talking safety with other big players in the industry, and we educated plenty of people on the growing need for consistent, computerized safety documentation. Here’s a quick recap of the past couple of weeks.
2016 Southern Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Conference
At the 26th annual SOOSHC in Ashland, Oregon, safety industry experts met to discuss a variety of topics, including industrial hygiene, arc flash safety, violence prevention and many more. The conference also included two certification workshops, “Flagger Certification for Temporary Traffic Control for Short-Term Work Zones” and “Signaling Safety and Basics of On-Site Rigging.”
Software was another major focus at the SOOSHC. BasicSafe CEO Kevin Shoemaker’s speech, “Six Ways to Improve Your Safety Management Efficiency with Emerging Computer Technology,” focused on how you can take advantage of tech tools to make the complex job of safety management much more streamlined, fun and productive—whether you’re tech-savvy or computer illiterate. Shoemaker highlighted six advantages of software over paper-based safety management, and co-presenter Mike Hill shared a few tricks and downloadable programs that safety personnel can start using right away. Shoemaker’s topics were:
- Complete System Integration
- Streamlined Organization
- Cloud-based Portability
- Engaging Social Connectedness
- Efficient, Lean Document Control
- Leveraging Tools to Simplify Tasks
National Safety Council Congress & Expo
